BANGKOK, Dec 16 (TNA) — Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said his ministry was about to introduce fair regulations for ride-hailing service providers and taxi drivers and commuters would benefit from the new rules.
The minister said that the Land Transport Department would this week report the results of its public hearings on ride-hailing services and would propose new regulations to make the services and those provided by conventional taxis and motorcycle taxis convenient and safe for commuters while service providers would enjoy convenient service atmosphere and lower costs.
If the new regulations from the department are sound and comprehensive, the Transport Ministry would propose them to the cabinet for approval and implementation, he said.
Mr Saksayam said that the new regulations would solve conflicts between application-based ride-hailing service providers and conventional taxi and motorcycle taxi drivers.
“There will be the rules that all parties will accept,” he said.
Earlier deputy government spokeswoman Trisulee Trisaranakul said the government planned to legalize ride-hailing services for people’s conveniences and already had measures to help conventional taxi and motorcycle taxi drivers. (TNA)
