PHUKET, Dec 10 (TNA) – Rescuers proceed with their efforts and more boats and aircraft are deployed to search for a Polish tourist and a Thai woman who have gone missing for three days since they went kayaking off the island province.
Mateusz Juszkiewicz, 27, and a Thai woman aged 23 rented a kayak to visit Koh Man island near Yanui beach. They disappeared amid waves in the evening of Dec 7.
Phuket deputy governor Supote Rodrueang Na Nongkhai said rescuers were trying at their best to search for both people amid strong winds and high waves. He admitted that it was naturally difficult to spot a kayak in the sea. In the meantime, tourist police were offering services for the conveniences of the tourists’ relatives.
“We have rescuers work by land, water and air. Volunteers from the private sector also take part in the mission. The search has entered its third day and we still have hopes. We will do our best. I must admit that searches in the sea are difficult because of the vast area. However, we are using all our resources. I believe the search will be successful soon,” Mr Supote said.
RAdm Charnyos Atsuwee, deputy commander of the Third Fleet, said rescuers would use helicopters to expand their search scope and data on currents and winds would be calculated to guide farther search areas. (TNA)
