BANGKOK, Dec 6 (TNA) — The tripartite wage committee resolved to raise the minimum daily wage by 6 baht in nine provinces and 5 baht in others.
Suthi Sukosol, permanent secretary of the Labour Ministry, chaired the wage committee’s meeting at the Labour Ministry on Dec 6.
The committee took over an hour before deciding to raise the minimum wage by 6 baht in Chon Buri, Phuket, Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon and Prachin Buri. The wage in other provinces will rise by 5 baht.
The wage increase will result in 10 rates ranging from 313 to 336 baht. The lowest rate will be in the three southern border provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala. The highest level of 336 baht will be in Chon Buri and Phuket.
Representatives of employees and employers gave comprehensive information including past wages, costs of living, national economy and employers’ ability to pay wages before the decision, Mr Suthi said.
The wage rise would take effect on Jan 1, 2020. Mr Suthi said it would support economic growth and impacts on foreign investment would be minimal.
The Labour Ministry would later consider detailed impacts and assistance for affected parties, he said. (TNA)
