BANGKOK, Dec 3 (TNA) – Thai shippers have revised export
growth forecast down to 2.5-3 percent this year amid grim outlook.
The Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC) on Tuesday
announced its projection of export contraction citing the continued impacts of
the trade war on Thai manufacturing goods.
TNSC Chairperson Ghanyapad Tantipipatpong said the forecast was
based on the consumption that the currency stayed at 33 baht against the US
dollar.
For 2020, the TNSC projected exports to improve to 0-1
percent growth, she said.
Ghanyapad said the Council recommended the government to
strengthen the country’s competitiveness with its monetary policy and exchange
rate control measures.
She said some economic measures intended to increase revenue
might weaken the competitiveness; such as cooperate tax hike.
The government’s proposed minimum wage increase could also
affect competitiveness, Ghanyapad warned.
Contracted exports had chain effects on the economy from
higher unemployment to lower household income, Ghanyapad added. (TNA)
