BANGKOK, Nov 26 (TNA) – Thailand risks losing market
shares of some products in Vietnam and Myanmar to China within the next five
years, an expert warns.
Aat Pisanwanich, director of the Center for International
Trade Studies at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC), raised
his concerns on Tuesday over potential loss of market share in Vietnam
affecting Thai exports of textile, flooring tiles, corns and leather goods.
Thailand’s export share in Myanmar market could also see
significant contraction, he said, resulting in lower shipment of beverage,
condiments, steel and clothes to the neighbouring country.
Aat also said in the press conference that the UTCC
recommended that Thailand should engage in China’s supply chain in order to
boost export to a third country.
Thai businesses ought to explore opportunities that
complement Chinese mega investment projects such as high-speed railway linking
China, Laos and Thailand, he said. (TNA)
