BANGKOK, Nov 21 (TNA) — The Thai economic slowdown was not severe but must not be slower, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said in a meeting with senior officials of the Finance Ministry.
Mr Somkid shared his view in his meeting with representatives of organizations under the Finance Ministry. They included the Fiscal Policy Office, the Revenue Department and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.
His stance followed the announcement of the National Economic and Social Development Council that the Thai economic growth was at 2.4% in the third quarter of this year.
Regarding global situations, Thailand was maintaining its economic growth well but in the fourth quarter it should do better in order to create the growth momentum through to next year, Mr Somkid said.
“This year is important. The economic growth must not slow further down. It is necessary to maintain economic growth along with reform. This is a critical moment and everyone must be helpful,” the deputy prime minister said.
The Finance Ministry was working out measures to cope while confidence had not picked up, Mr Somkid said. (TNA)
