YALA, Nov 14 (TNA) – Massive manhunt continues for gunmen
who killed 15 civilian defence volunteers in Yala on November 5, one of the
deadliest insurgent attacks in Thailand’s South.
Security officers on Thursday searched many locations in
three districts of the southern province of Yala in connection to the ambush on
two checkpoints and brutally murdered the civilian defence volunteers.
Six more men have been arrested, putting the number of
suspects detained under the martial law since the incident to 17.
One of them was arrested at a house located five kilometers
from the scene after evidence suggests he handled explosive device used in the
attack.
Authorities have said they suspect around 30 to 40 people
were involved while it remains unclear which insurgency group was behind the
attack. No one has claimed
responsibility
Yala and two other southernmost provinces, Pattani and
Narathiwat, have been under 15-year insurgency that has killed more than 7,000
people.(TNA)
