BEIJING, Oct 31 (TNA) – CCTV+, the video news agency of China Central Television in cooperation with the People’s Television Network Inc (PTNI) of the Philippines held a meeting between China and ASEAN media to boost cooperation in the digital era.
The second ASEAN Media Roundtable, entitled “Mutual Development & Shared Future” was attended by 80 participants from 63 news agencies in 41 countries and 50 Chinese media members.
Teng Yunping, CEO of China Global Television Network Corporation (CGTNC) said at the opening ceremony that cooperation between China and ten ASEAN member countries would be a good opportunity to create a new vision of media in Asia and to strengthen cooperation among them.
The topic of discussion was focused on how to find ways for information and news exchange between China and ASEAN countries in various potential forms such as news programmes, news documentaries or TV dramas for better connections and understanding.
An Xiaoyu, acting general-director general of Asia & Africa Services of China Media Group praised Thai News Agency (TNA), MCOT Pcl for its cooperation with CCTV+ and China Media Group on the occasion of the 70th anniversary celebration of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Watcharin Setakudan, TNA’s Editor-in-Chief, cited live broadcast of the event to the audiences in Thailand by MCOT HD, a digital TV in Thailand as an example of the first historic cooperation between Thai and China media.
The seminar discussed challenges in the digital era and new channels for more cooperation. TNA representatives raised the issue of fact-checking processes for accuracy of the information, disseminated to audiences.
For example, TNA established the Sure and Share center, broadcasting a daily fact-checking programme to clarify potential fake information online.
Moreover, cooperation on technology, personnel training through a China-ASEAN media fund were proposed during the meeting.
In this regard, Noppadol Kornithi, MCOT Vice President, Domestic News Department signed a cooperation agreement with CCTV+ and China Media Group in terms of video exchange. (TNA)
