BANGKOK, Oct 19 (TNA) – In an attempt to take care of prisoners’ health nationwide, the Public Health Ministry has joined hands with related agencies to offer training for selected inmates to look after their peers.
Dr. Sukhum Kanchanapimai, permanent secretary for Public Health said guidelines and syllabus for the volunteers in prisons are expected to complete this December.
The public health system management in the 2020 fiscal budget will provide prisoners access to quality health services, which cover health promotion and disease prevention.
Under the project, activities include HIV and syphilis screening tests for the prisoners before their release, mental health service, a breastfeeding and child development programmes.
Health services on certain diseases need cooperation from the Corrections Department and hospitals under the network, he added. (TNA)
