RANONG, Oct 16 (TNA) — Authorities in Ranong province repatriated 30 illegal Myanmar migrants through Tak and Chiang Rai provinces after their legal cases were finalized.
Sending the migrants, Ranong deputy governor Pornthep Pongsri said the 30 Myanmar men were transported on five vans to border checkpoints in Mae Sot district of Tak and Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai.
Authorities in Ranong conducted their legal cases straightforwardly and sent them back to their homeland safely for the good ties of both countries, he said.
According to the deputy governor, about 100 illegal Myanmar and Rohingya migrants are in custody in the southern province. They are men, women, elderly people and children. They will be repatriated after their legal cases are concluded.
Most of the people were human trafficking victims and were lured into Thailand because they were poor and needed jobs. They had to pay for their illegal trips to Thailand and not all of them had their wishes fulfilled, Mr Pornthep said. (TNA)
