BANGKOK, Oct 7 (TNA) — An image of revered Chinese sea goddess Mazu will be brought to Thailand in November for believers to worship and for tourism promotion.
Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said the management of the Mazu Temple of Meizhou in Putian city of China would bring the statue to Thailand on Nov 14-19.
During the period, the minister said, the image would be brought to many places for worshippers.
They were gathering places of people of the Chinese origin in Bangkok and Samut Sakhon province including Yaowarat, the Quanzhou Jinjiang Association (Thailand), the Lim Clansmen Association of Thailand and Wat Mangkon Kamalawat, Mr Phiphat said.
The culture related to the Mazu goddess continued for about 1,000 years. The arrival of the revered image would be a special occasion for local people of the Chinese origins and attract Chinese tourists to visit Thailand, he said. (TNA)
