BANGKOK, Oct 4 (TNA) — The Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT) has called for a ban on the use of paraquat, glyphosate and chlorpyrifos and demanded all concerned ministries reveal their stances on the issue.
ACT said in its statement that the government of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha should clearly expressed its intention to ban the three seriously harmful chemicals to prove that it did not ignore the health and life of Thai people, both children and adults.
The organization also announced three proposals to guarantee transparency on the issue.
Firstly it wanted the government to help farmers who would be affected when the use of the three chemicals ends.
Secondly all concerned ministries clearly announce their policies concerning the matter so that people and ministerial officials who sit in the Committee on Hazardous Substances will share a common direction.
Thirdly ACT demanded the Committee on Hazardous Substances be accountable for their resolutions concerning the issue and any committee members who support the continuous use of the three chemicals should explain their reasons to the public.
The issue had direct impacts on people’s life and health. Therefore, people should have the right to know what was happening, ACT stated. (TNA)
