BANGKOK, Oct 2 (TNA) –The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) and Krungthai Bank have launched cashless fare payment service aboard all buses of the state enterprise.
BMTA director-general Surachai Iamwachirasakul said that from Oct 1 onwards, passengers on all buses of the BMTA could pay fares in a cashless manner by using electronic fare cards, debit or credit cards with the Contactless logo and government welfare cards.
Bus attendants would use their electronic data capture (EDC) devices to collect fares from passengers’ cards without any fee, he said.
Kittipat Peantham, first executive vice president of Krungthai Bank, said that the bank installed EDC devices on all BMTA buses.
With the devices, the BMTA was able to check the financial transactions of each bus via a website, improve its revenue management and cut logistic costs, he said. (TNA)
