NEW YORK, Sept 25 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut
Chan-o-cha on Tuesday held bilateral talks with his counterparts from Australia
and Bangladesh on the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly in
New York.
Gen Prayut met with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
for a bilateral discussion focusing on trade ties. The two leaders agreed to expand trade and
investment through existing mechanisms including a joint trade commission.
The Thai premier invited Bangladesh to invest in his
government’s flagship development projects, the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)
and special border economic zones.
Later, in the meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott
Morrison, Prayut hailed the Australian government’s handling of economic
issues.
Morrison praised Thailand for its role as chairman of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Both leaders agreed to elevate Thai-Australian bilateral
relationship to a strategic partnership for boosting trade and investment.
Gen Prayut and his entourage are on the six day trip to New
York for the UNGA. He also attended a
high-level meeting on Universal Health Coverage to show Thailand’s strong
leadership with its national health scheme.
In his capacity of ASEAN chairman, Prayut gave his speeches
at the UN Climate Action Summit and the Sustainable Development Goal summit,
pledging, on behalf of ASEAN member states, to accelerate development of the
region and cooperation with other nations to tackle global warming. (TNA)
