BANGKOK, Sept 10 (TNA) – The Customs Department crack down evasion of duty payment on imported goods, worth more than 90 million baht in the past 11 month of the 2019 fiscal year.
Customs spokesperson and consultant Chaiyut Khamkhun said the department and airlines have cooperated to monitor suspicious behavior of cabin crews to arrest offending staff, who smuggled untaxed brand-name products for selling.
He said the green channel and the red channel are available for them to declare goods, exceeding the allowance limit at the airports.
To increase efficiency in inspection, he added 23 x-ray conveyors will be installed at Suvarnabhumi Airport in the first quarter of 2020 to strictly check smuggling of brand name goods to avoid tax.
Tada Chumchaiyo, director of the Customs Investigation and Suppression Bureau said in the fiscal year 2018, the crackdowns on smuggling of the brand-name goods to evade duties were worth 60 million baht and the value of the seized items reached 90 million baht in the past 11 months pf the 2019 fiscal year,
Anyone, who gives tip-offs to the authorities, will be rewarded 20 per cent of the value of the seized items, sold at auction. (TNA)
