BANGKOK, Sept 5 (TNA) – Thailand consumer confidence fell
to a 33-month low in August amid concerns about the economic slowdown,
political instability and the US-China trade war, according to a survey by the
University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC).
UTCC’s Economic and Business Forecast Center director
Thanavath Pholvichai on Thursday revealed the latest survey result that show
Consumer Confidence Index dropping for six straight months to 73.6, the lowest
since December 2016.
Despite the recently introduced economic stimulus measures
to inject Bt316 billion into the economy, consumers remained worried about the
overall global economic outlook arising from the impacts of US-China trade war
and the political instability, said Thanavath.
The survey did not reflect the effects of the two powerful
storms, Podul and Kajiki, on the agricultural sector with estimated at Bt5-8
billion in damage, he noted.
Thanavath said even though the index continued to fall the
Center believed Thailand’s economic growth this year could still expand 3-3.2
percent thanks to government stimulus measures and flood relief packages.(TNA)
