BANGKOK, Aug 30 (TNA) – The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has set up four sub-committees to handle fake news online while the Anti-Fake News Center is expected to open in November to check fake news around the clock.
Digital Economy and Society Minister, Buddhipongse Punnakanta said that his ministry set up four sub-committees to tackle fake news that has an impact on safety of people’s lives and property.
Each committee will handle different kinds of fake information about natural disasters, economic issues, health products and cosmetics and the last one on the government’s policies, the government news, social order and national security.
He said Thursday’s meeting discussed criteria for selecting fake news, investigation processes and dissemination of correct information.
Moreover, the Anti-Fake News Center is expected to fully operate on Nov 1 to check fake news quickly and efficiently. The center’s management structure is being mapped out, he added.
He will meet digital platform providers to seek their cooperation and opinions to set clear guidelines up to standard for the center.
The ministry will also improve its practices in checking fake news to join the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). (TNA)
