BANGKOK, Aug 23 (TNA) – Four airlines offer passengers a free
loading of 20 kilograms of fresh fruits packed in boxes provided by the Commerce
Ministry at airports, as part of the campaign to promote fruit sales and consumption.
Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanavisit on Friday inspected the
distribution of fruit boxes for passengers at Surat Thani Airport to load fruits
free of charge. The campaign is aimed to help fruit growers increase sales of
fruits from their orchards to visiting consumers.
The boxes are provided in two sizes – 5 kg and 10 kg. Each
passenger is allowed to load 20 kg of fresh fruits at maximum.
Four airlines—Thai Smile, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air and
AirAsia – have signed an agreement with the Commerce Ministry to provide the
service.
The fruits must be packed in checked packages provided by
the Ministry’s Department of Internal Trade to ensure safety and abide by
aviation regulations.
Additional measures for fruit farmers include free fruit
delivery service by Thailand Post and marketing promotions at major retailers.
Mr. Jurin said this kind of service would be applied at other
airports in the South. (TNA)
