BANGKOK, Aug 22 (TNA) – The opposition Future Forward
Party (FFP) has called for a non-partisan solution to setup an LGBTQ permanent
parliamentary committee.
FFP MPs lashed out at other parties ahead of a vote on the
FFP proposal to setup the new committee, in addition to the current permanent
panels. They said some parties had
failed to keep their election campaign promises.
FFP MP Thanwarin Sukhapisit said he demanded disclosure of
the Wednesday’s voting which would reveal how each MP voted.
LGBTQ issues have been handled by the children and women
affairs committee.
The FFP has actively campaigned for solid actions to solve
some problems faced by the LGBTQ community.
Thanwarin said seven million LGBT people in Thailand still faced
discriminations in their lives and careers.
A permanent committee is responsible for considering bills,
conducting studies, and reporting to the House.
Representatives of LGBTQ rights groups at the press
conference said they waited for the MPs to realize their election promise by
establishing an LGBTQ committee, which would be the first important step.
The legislative power was crucial to ensure rights
protection for LGBTQ people, they said.(TNA)
