BANGKOK, Oct 26 (TNA) – The Traditional Thai Medicine Week kicks off at Wat Pho, the first Thai university and the center of the traditional Thai massage.
Permanent Secretary for Public Health, Sukhum Kanchanapimai presided over the opening of the event to commemorate King Rama III, the Father of traditional Thai medicine.
The Thai Traditional Medicine Day falls on Oct 29.
The ancient medical wisdom has been recorded in stone inscriptions at Wat Pho or Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklaram.
Thai traditional medical service and herbal medicine are offered at the event, which will run until October 29 from 9 am. to 6 pm. There are also discussions about Thai herbal medicine.
The Public Health Ministry has launched nine national herbal medicine formulas for treating several symptoms such as coughs, hoarse voice, and muscle pain at the exhibition there.
The ministry has a policy to replace the use of modern medicine with herbal medicine and the herbal cities have been developed in 13 provinces to promote the use of Thai traditional medicine as an alternative therapy. (TNA)
