NAY PYI TAW 24 (TNA) – Thailand is ready to work together with other member countries of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) to control the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in the grouping.
Deputy Government Spokesman Major General Veerachon Sukhontapatipak told journalists on Tuesday that Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha expressed the readiness at the 6th ACMECS Summit, held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar's capital, from June 22-23.
The deputy spokesman said the Thai Ministries of Public Health and Foreign Affairs have been assigned to discuss the regional cooperation on the issue in details and to also coordinate with other ACMECS member countries to control the deadly virus.
Realising that Thailand has effectively control MERS-CoV, the deputy spokesman noted, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen hailed the Kingdom’s success and asked his Thai counterpart to share Thailand's knowledge and experiences on dealing with the deadly virus to other ACMECS member states.
Hun Sen’s request was made as government leaders of the ACMECS member countries were concluding their two-day summit in the Myanmar capital.
The ACMECS member countries include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, all of which are also member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). (TNA)
