BANGKOK, Sept 29 (TNA) – Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew said Thailand’s UN General Assembly (UNGA) address was necessary to clarify the nation’s position after Cambodia’s speech contradicted prior bilateral agreements on peace and trust.
Sihasak stated he felt compelled to address the UN after Cambodia presented a one-sided account, undermining the spirit of recent bilateral talks.
He firmly rejected Cambodia’s claim to be the sole “victim,” asserting that the real casualties were Thai soldiers and civilians harmed in the conflict.
The Minister reaffirmed that the dispute should be resolved through bilateral dialogue, not by escalating it internationally with unverified claims.
He also stressed that Cambodia must honor existing ceasefires and agreements to restore peace and security to the border.
Security expert Dr. Panitan Wattanayagorn praised the Thai response as a “proactive operation” to counter factual distortions, noting the speech drew applause at the UN. – 819 (TNA)
