CHIANG MAI, Sept 9 (TNA) – Police has not charged the Myanmar man who confessed to abducting a 23-month-old girl pending their careful collection of evidence and witnesses.
Pol Maj Gen Weerachon Boonthawee, investigative and interrogative commander at the Provincial Police Region 5, said that police had not charged Siew aka Apha, 44, yet because the suspect was answering police’s questions inconsistently and some people believed that another suspect might free the girl known as Gina while Mr Siew was in police custody.
Besides, police had yet to conclude the motive of Mr Siew and check more witnesses, timelines and evidence at the crime scene, Pol Maj Gen Weerachon said.
Gina had disappeared from her Huay Fak Dab village in Mae Taeng district of Chiang Mai in the evening of Sept 5. On Sept 8, Mr Siew who was a friend of the girl’s father told police that he abducted the toddler and left her in front of a cave about three kilometers away from the village as a sacrifice to forest spirits.
