BANGKOK, May 21 (TNA) – The Japanese government advises its citizens not to visit Thailand due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country.
Tanee Sangrat, director-general of the Department of Information and spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, said that on May 18 Japan intensified its travel warning concerning seven countries including Thailand. Based on severer COVID-19 situations, the warning was escalated from level 2 (not paying a visit unless it is urgently necessary) to level 3 (not paying a visit).
The number of countries in the level 3 warning thus increased from 153 to 160.
The latest travel advisory did not have any impact on Japan’s restrictions already imposed on visitors from Thailand to Japan, Mr Tanee said.
In February, the Japanese government prohibited foreigners who sought new visas from visiting Japan and it has not relieved the restriction for any country, he said. (TNA)
