BANGKOK, Jan 25 (TNA) – The opposition filed a censure motion backed with 208 MPs targeting 10 ministers.
Opposition leader Sompong Amornwiwat and leaders of opposition parties submitted the motion with House Speaker Chuan Leekpai. They targeted 10 ministers including Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Other targets are Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit, Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda, Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan, Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob, Deputy Interior Minister Niphon Bunyamanee and Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Thamanat Prompow.
Prasert Chantararuangthong, secretary-general of the opposition-core Pheu Thai Party, said the opposition found corruption, poor national administration and the lack of the rule of law and fair law enforcement.
The opposition had strong evidence that would take the government off-guard and would later file complaints about at least two issues with relevant organizations. The opposition was aware that its votes were too small to impeach a minister but many issues could lead to criminal action, Mr Prasert said.
House Speaker Chuan said that officials would check the censure motion and the censure debate could happen between Feb 16 and 19. (TNA)
