BANGKOK, Jan 30 (TNA) – The Public Health Ministry will increase two new laboratories to test new coronavirus in the capital and will expand the lab facilities to cover all regions, said Permanent Secretary Sukhum Kanchanapimai for Public Health.
The two existing labs are at the Department of Medical Sciences and the Emerging Infectious Disease Health Science Centre, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.
New facilities will be developed at Rajavithi Hospital and the second one at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital as well as regional medical sciences centres in 14 provinces, including Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chonburi, Surat Thani, Songkhla and Phuket.
The lab test results can be known within three hours for quick diagnosis.
The permanent secretary said the public health ministry will maintain surveillance measures for at least six months, the same as prevention measures of the flu outbreak.
It has contingency plans to handle the possible spread of outbreak through human-to-human transmission both in the provincial level and the national level. (TNA)
