BANGKOK, May 19 (TNA) – Expressing frustration over years of alleged governmental neglect, the Strong-Hearted Monkey Lovers Club has requested media attention to the need for a permanent habitat for long-tailed macaques in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian.
Club President Kawinpat Mongkoltechapat highlighted the difficulties faced by 300-400 monkeys after their habitat was cleared, despite the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration acquiring 12 rai of land in 2007 for a sanctuary that remains undeveloped.
This inaction has led to monkeys venturing into residential areas, causing conflict. The club proposes developing the 12 rai into a suitable home and potential eco-tourism site, but repeated funding requests to relevant agencies, particularly the BMA, have reportedly gone unanswered.
In an effort to raise awareness, they have asked the media to highlight the urgency of allocating resources for a sustainable macaque habitat, ensuring their welfare and harmonious coexistence with the local community. -819 (TNA)
