PHUKET, Jan 14 (TNA) – A catamaran carrying 38 people, including tourists and crew, sank off the coast of Phuket, southern Thailand, on Monday. All passengers were rescued and returned to shore safely, authorities said.
According to officials, water began entering the vessel, causing it to gradually sink north of Racha Island, approximately 1.6 nautical miles from the coast.
A coordinated rescue operation was launched by the rescue center, involving patrol boats and nearby tourist speedboats from various companies. All passengers were successfully rescued and brought back to shore. No injuries were reported.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident. Phuket officials have contacted the Chinese consulate to inform them that all Chinese citizens involved are safe. -819 (TNA)
