BANGKOK, Nov 3 (TNA) – The particulate matter (PM2.5) levels have increased as anticipated and exceeded the safety standard in 34 areas.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s air quality information center summarized the results of the PM2.5 measurements taken on Friday.
PM2.5 levels are on the rise, exceeding the standard and reaching the orange level, which has adverse health effects, in 34 areas. At 7:00 AM, the PM2.5 particle measurement ranged from 24.1 to 54.1 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m³). This is an increase compared to the same time yesterday.
These levels are above the standard (standard not to exceed 37.5 µg/m³).
People going outside should wear protective masks, especially those in vulnerable groups or the elderly. It’s advisable not to leave the house and outdoor physical activities should be avoided.
Pornphrom Vikitsreth, Advisor to Bangkok Governor has issued a warning to the public to monitor the current air quality situation. He also mentioned that particulate matter levels are expected to increase to the red to orange levels during this weekend, based on predictions from the Pollution Control Department and AIR BKK.
The measures to address this situation include:
Monitoring measures: Currently, Bangkok is conducting a Risk Map initiative, inspecting all construction sites and collecting data for the Risk Map.
Pollution reduction measures: These include monitoring air quality and checking sources of particulate matter, including construction sites and construction permits.
Health-related measures: Clear guidelines are already in place, particularly in schools. Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Bangkok Governor has coordinated with a team to oversee students’ health in case of high particulate matter levels. Flag installations at schools will display the PM2.5 levels and extend to the community. Hospitals are also preparing clinics for particulate matter-related health concerns. (TNA)
