BANGKOK, Sept 7 (TNA) – Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin asserts the use of blockchain technology to implement the 10,000-baht digital handout policy and has not yet disclosed the funding source.
Following reports that the funding of the digital wallet policy might involve borrowing from state enterprises, the prime minister said that he had discussed with various sectors, and the government is currently considering the funding sources.
Yesterday, he held talks with the governor of the Bank of Thailand, who provided valuable insights and recommendations on how the country’s financial and monetary systems would be if the government implements the 10,000 baht digital wallet policy in the medium and long term. This includes factors such as public debt figures.
The governor agreed with the plan but it needs to be more discussion for clarity, he said.
When asked about the system to be used, he confirmed that it would involve blockchain technology and affirmed that this policy would be implemented in the first quarter of next year. (TNA)
