BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) – The transport minister and representatives of Bangkok Expressway and Metro PCL (BEM) agreed to freeze the fares of the Blue Line electric railway throughout this year to help commuters.
Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said they discussed ways to control Blue Line fares after the cabinet resolved on June 28 to allow the fares to change in line with the consumer price index.
According to the minister, the Blue Line contract permits Blue Line fares to rise every 24 months. The increase is actually due on July 3 and fares would otherwise rise by 1 baht from 17-42 baht to 17-43 baht.
However, to help commuters, the fares on the Blue Line system on Hua Lamphong-Bang Sue, Hua Lamphong-Bang Khae and Bang Sue-Tha Phra routes will be frozen at 17-42 baht until the end of this year.
Fares will be cut by 50% for children and elderly people and by 10% for students until Dec 31. (TNA)
