SAMUT SAKHON, Jan 26 (TNA) – Samut Sakhon province yesterday reported 914 new cases, mostly detected in active case finding.
Among all 844 cases detected by active case finding, 760 were migrants and 84 were Thais. Seventy others including 35 migrants and 35 Thais were found in hospitals.
The total cases in the province rose to 6,555.
As the authorities have planned to reopen the Central Shrimp Market in Samut Sakhon within this month, which has been declared as maximum disease control zone for more than a month, the repeat mass testing was conducted on the last group of 1,217 people there and the results showed 113 people tested positive for coronavirus.
After finding over 100 new cases, the whole areas surrounding the market were cleaned and disinfected.
Deputy Samut Sakhon governor, Theerapat Katchamat said the communicable disease committee need to discuss more on the disease control measures with entrepreneurs and traders there to prepare for the reopening.
The measures to prevent the spread of the disease will be strictly implemented after the reopening. The customers have to make an appointment to receive their purchases to reduce crowd at the market. Payment will be made by QR code. Changes will be made for cleanliness in all procedures and both entrepreneurs and migrants have to cooperate.
However, it remains unclear whether the market will be allowed to reopen within this month. The authorities will consider readiness of the people, the market system and the management of migrant dormitories to ensure good hygiene before they can decide when to reopen the market. (TNA)
