BANGKOK, Sept 11 (TNA) – The Department of Industrial Works (DIW) has denied that it requested the imports of plastic waste, saying it only reported the demand of the private sector.
As the import quota of plastic trash will expire in mid- September, the DIW director – general, Prakob Vivitjinda denied that the Industry Ministry proposed the new quota of plastic waste imports to a subcommittee on plastic and electronic waste.
He confirmed that the DIW did not support plastic waste imports but it only reported the requests by the private sector.
He said private companies cited domestic plastic waste is not ready for use due to lack of cleanliness and quality.
The decision to continue importing plastic waste or not depends on the subcommittee and so far, no decision has been made.
He reiterated that the DIW remains neutral on the issue and it supports the use of domestic plastic waste rather than imported one. (TNA)
