BANGKOK, Sept 5 (TNA) – The rubber price exceeds 60 baht per kilogram for the first time in three years as the government attributes it to global demand and local supply-demand management.
Deputy government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said that the price of ribbed smoked sheets 3 exceeded 60 baht per kilogram over the past week and made a new high in three years.
The price tended to rise further due to global demand, especially huge demand from China, the economy of which was recovering, she said.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives ordered the Rubber Authority of Thailand to cooperate with relevant organizations on developing new rubber products, increasing the value of rubber products and expanding marketing campaigns for Thai rubber exports, she said.
The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic affected natural rubber demand early this year but the exports of Thai rubber gloves were growing by 8-15%, Miss Rachada said. Thailand is the second biggest exporter of rubber gloves, second to Malaysia.
The government implemented measures to increase local demand for rubber and reduce rubber plantations and the management would raise the rubber price in the long run. Besides, the cabinet would consider a project to insure the income of rubber farmers. The Natural Rubber Policy Committee already approved the project, Miss Rachada said. (TNA)
