Bangkok, Aug 8 (TNA) – Thai labour officials were handing out dried food to Thai workers who were injured and whose living quarters were damaged after the huge ammonium nitrate blast in Beirut.
Theanrat Nawamawat, deputy permanent secretary of the Labour Ministry, quoted Wittawat Khuprasert, Minister Counsellor on labour at the Thai Office of Labour in Saudi Arabia, as saying that Thai workers in Beirut needed consumer products, especially dried food that became expensive due to the damage of local supplies and imminent shortages.
Siri-on Sriwirut, labour volunteer in Beirut, reported that dried food was delivered to jeweler Komsan Kajornsombat who had swollen legs and feet after they were crushed by a door. His living quarter was completely destroyed. His roommate Panya Songyu also received the handout. He was blown for about four meters and had bruises and shoulder pain.
Miss Siri-on said shops in inner Beirut were damaged. She had to buy products in suburbs but transport was difficult because many roads were closed.
Mr Wittawat asked Miss Siri-on to survey affected Thai workers so that assistance would be immediately offered. (TNA)
