BANGKOK, June 17 (TNA) – The Cabinet on Tuesday approved in principle a 22-billion- baht domestic tourism package to revive the tourism sector.
Under the stimulus package, three projects will run from July to October, said Deputy government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul.
The first 2.4-million-baht scheme will support domestic trips for 1.2 million medical personnel, village health volunteers and sub-district health promotion hospital workers through local tourism operators with 2,000 baht per person.
The second scheme with the budget of 18 billion baht will subsidize 40 per cent of accommodation up to 3,000 baht per night for domestic travellers.
A subsidy will also be given for meals and other amenities at participating hotels and restaurants outside tourists’ native provinces on the condition that tourists have to pay for the expenses via a Krungthai Bank platform.
The remaining 2 billion baht is to subsidise 40 per cent of transportation fares including air travel, interprovincial buses and car rental but the subsidy is limited to 1,000 baht per tourist.
She said the Tourism Authority of Thailand will consider the details of each scheme to allow general public to use their rights for both accommodation and transportation expenses.
The government will do its best to prevent any problems in online registration processes, which occurred in the Chim, Shop, Chai (Taste, Shop, Spend) economic stimulus scheme, she added. (TNA)
