BANGKOK, Oct 24 (TNA) – Thailand is ranked 21st among 190
economies in the World Bank’s ease of doing business ranking in 2020, jumping
six places from 27th position in 2019.
The country’s score increased 1.65 points from last year’s
to 80.1, the highest in six years,
Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana said on Thursday.
Compared with other economies in Southeast Asia, Thailand’s
ease of doing business score was slightly below Malaysia, 81.50, and Singapore,
86.2, he said.
The minister said the significant improvement in both score
and ranking reflected the government’s efforts to reduce the process for doing
business, adopt digital systems for government services, and improve rules and
regulations.
Thailand scored better in two categories; dealing with
construction permits with a score of 77.3 and protecting minority investors
with 86 points, said Uttama.
Despite the improvement in the ranking, Thailand still
needed to do more to facilitate business operations and its competitiveness,
Uttama added.(TNA)
