SONGKHLA, Sept 21 (TNA) – Dangerous smoke from Indonesia’s Sumatra Island is still covering the southern Thai province of Songkhla for the four consecutive day Saturday, authorities said.
The PM 2.5 reading is now measured at the average of 60 microgrammes per cubic metre per day in Songkhla above the safe limit of 50 microgrammes per cubic metre.
Simultaneously, Songkhla Zoo officials handed out face masks to an orangutan and a chimpanzee but they refused to wear the masks because they are still new to them.
Zoo officials have also sprayed water to increase moisture in the air and to also reduce pollution at the zoo.
Related provincial officials have agreed at the meeting, held recently to closely monitor the haze situation and to also distribute face masks to local residents. They are optimistic that the haze would change directions from next Monday due to winds from the Gulf of Thailand blowing to the provincial seat. (TNA)
