BANGKOK, Aug 15 (TNA) – In the fight against street
racing, Thai police will offer cash reward for people whose report leading to
arrests of motorcycle street racers.
Starting next month, the Bt3,000 reward would be given in
the police campaign against street racers, Pol Lt General Damrongsak
Kittiprapas, deputy chief of the Royal Thai Police, said after a police meeting
on Thursday.
He said the cash reward would come mainly from police
investigation fund, in a bid to effectively eradicate public nuisance arising
from street racing.
People would be able to file reports with various channels
like emergency hotlines and police social media platforms and their identity
would be kept confidential, said Pol Lt General Damrongsak.
In the past few weeks, police have intensified crackdown on
motorcycle street racing across the country.
From July 27 to August 11, over 58,000 people were arrested
for street racing and related crimes.
National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda
recently vowed to make motorcycle racing “extinct” in Thailand.
Along with suppression against street racing, legal actions
have been taken against shops that provide motorcycle modification services and
parents who allow their children to race on streets.(TNA)
