BANGKOK, July 27 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will from August 1 double fines from 1,000 to 2,000 baht on motorcyclists riding on footpaths, starting from August 1.
Informants, who reported the wrongdoing to BMA officials will receive half of the total fines or 1,000 baht after the cases end.
The new fine, to be enforced next week is still within the law that permits the BMA to impose not over 5,000-baht fine to each violator.
Violators do not respect the current BMA law, which has been enforced a year ago because they believe the fine is too little, said Thirapan Atirut-thanaporn, Director-General of BMA’s City Law Enforcement Department.
During the past one year, a total of 20,870 accused violators were apprehended while 14,870 persons were prosecuted and 4,000 others received warnings.
BMA received 11,374,000 baht from violators during the period. (TNA)
