BANGKOK, April 15 (TNA) – The Department of Foreign Trade urges operators to use the Ban Khao Din border pass to trade with Cambodia as it has been upgraded to a permanent border pass.
Adul Chotinisakorn, director-general of the department, said Ban Khao Din in Khlong Hat district of Sa Kaeo province that bordered Sampou Lun district of Cambodia’s Battambang province was upgraded to a permanent border pass in February.
The border pass was 197 kilometers or only three hours’ driving from Siem Reap province.
Therefore, Thai operators could use the border pass as their convenient route to transport their products and facilitate tourism to major cities of Cambodia including Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
The route had potential for the promotion of bilateral tourism that was serving about 5 million tourists a year, Mr Adul said.
The value of Thai-Cambodian trade through Ban Khao Din reached 6.29 billion baht last year, comprising 3.61 billion baht worth of exports and 2.69-billion-baht imports. Thailand posted a trade surplus of 923 million baht there.
Important exports are live pigs, asphalt, roof tiles, gypsum boards and cement. Major imports are cassava, aluminum scraps, shoe parts, plastic crates, aluminum sheets, corn, copper scraps, fresh chili and mangoes. (TNA)
