BANGKOK, Jan 18 (TNA) – Thailand celebrates the National
Armed Forces Day in recognition of the role of the armed services.
The National Armed Forces Day commemorates the anniversary
of the victory of King Naresuan the Great of Ayutthaya Kingdom in a famous
elephant duel against a Burmese crown prince in 1593.
Military top brass led by Supreme Commander Gen Pornpipat
Benyasri laid wreaths at the National Monument in a ceremony to pay respects to
the venerated king, other monarchs of the kingdom and warriors.
In the afternoon, the Royal Thai Army, the Royal Thai Air
Force and the Royal Thai Navy will hold oath-taking ceremonies at various
locations across the country.
The Royal Thai Armed Forces in a statement says the armed
forces are committed to safeguarding the countries against other threats not
only security but also crimes as well as protection the country’s natural
resources and its people.
The armed forces will continue to engage in national development
and provide humanitarian assistance to people in time of crisis.(TNA)
