BANGKOK, Jan 14 (TNA) — The Department of Land Transport is set to issue an announcement for the introduction of electronic driver’s licenses today and launch such licenses tomorrow.
Peerapol Thawonsupacharoen, director-general of the department, said electronic driver’s licenses would be introduced tomorrow after the issuance of the announcement. “Tomorrow motorists can download applications compatible with Android and iOS operating systems to use electronic driver’s licenses,” he said.
The electronic version of driver’s licenses would be available for the licenses with QR codes, Mr Peerapol said.
He also said that, with e-licenses, the police would set up their system to punish the motorists who violated traffic rules instead of seizing driver’s licenses.
Electronic driver’s licenses would be introduced together with a database containing the information of licensed drivers, Mr Peerapol said.
The director-general of the Department of Land Transport also attended a seminar on standards for the transport of farm products and food under temperature-controlled conditions.
On the occasion, he said his department attached importance to the standards which helped boost competitiveness for the exports of farm products including fresh fruits and foods. (TNA)
