TAK, March 3 (TNA) – Fighting intensified along the Thai-Myanmar border in Tak province as Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) forces launched multiple drone strikes on a Myanmar military base, prompting retaliatory airstrikes, Thai military sources said.
The KNLA used drones to drop seven bombs on the Myanmar military’s Pu Loo Too operational base in Hpa-an, Karen State, opposite Thailand’s Tha Song Yang district, Tak province, approximately 800 meters from the border, according to a report from the Ratchamanu Task Force.
In response, Myanmar military deployed a YAK-130 aircraft to drop a bomb on KNLA positions around the Pu Loo Too base to defend their position.
Thai military personnel remained deployed along the border to ensure the safety of local residents and prevent foreign armed forces from violating Thai sovereignty.
The fighting has resulted in a continued influx of Myanmar refugees crossing the border into Thailand. As of 5 p.m. on Saturday, 65 refugees had returned to Myanmar, while 463 remained in Thailand. – 819 (TNA)
