BANGKOK, Oct 29 (TNA) – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra launched the “Thailand Winter Festivals” campaign on Tuesday, aiming to boost domestic tourism and attract international visitors during the peak season.
Dressed in a traditional Doi Tung scarf, the prime minister joined other cabinet members in promoting the nationwide winter festivities, which will run from November 2024 to January 2025. The event highlights a range of activities, including the Loy Krathong festival, New Year’s Eve celebrations, sports events, cultural showcases, food festivals, music concerts, and light shows.
“This year, we will be organizing winter festivals nationwide. No matter which province you visit, there will be something to see and do,” she said.
She encouraged Thais to promote the country as a year-round tourist destination, emphasizing its diverse culture, delicious cuisine, and natural beauty.
The prime minister also expressed optimism about the northern provinces, particularly Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, and Phayao, which were recently affected by floods. She assured potential visitors that these areas are now ready to welcome tourists.
Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, highlighted the government’s efforts to position Thailand as a world-class event hub.
“We are elevating traditional Thai festivals to the global stage, attracting both domestic and international tourists,” he said.
The “7 Wonders of Thailand” campaign will feature seven categories of activities, aimed at extending tourists’ stay and boosting spending.
With the winter tourism season underway, both the government and private sector are working together to promote Thailand as a premier tourist destination. -819 (TNA)
