CHIANG RAI, Sept 12 (TNA) – Military and rescue teams are working around the clock to evacuate residents trapped in their homes as severe flooding continues to batter the northern province of Chiang Rai.
Thai Navy SEALs have been conducting 24-hour missions to search for and rescue people stranded in their homes and unable to reach safety due to the swift-flowing currents.
In a late-night operation, SEALs ventured deep into floodwaters to rescue an elderly person, a woman, and a three-month-old infant who had been trapped without food for several hours following a flash flood. The rescue team had to wade through muddy waters for approximately 2-3 kilometers to reach the stranded residents.
Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Police’s Special Operations Unit 49, based in northern Thailand, has been assisting in rescue efforts, braving both floodwaters and heavy rainfall. The Ruamkatanyu Foundation has also dispatched teams to Chiang Rai, providing food and supplies to affected residents and assisting police with evacuations.
The Por Tek Tung Foundation has sent rescue teams to Chiang Rai equipped with high-lift vehicles, boats, and mobile kitchens to expedite rescue and evacuation efforts. -819 (TNA)
