BANGKOK, Aug 20 (TNA) — Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon disagrees with a proposal to give a one-year-long visa waiver to Chinese and Indian visitors on security concerns.
He was responding to the Tourism and Sports Ministry’s proposal for the cabinet to waive visa requirement on visitors from China and India for one year from November to boost the economy.
Security impacts must be considered but a visa waiver could be approved if it is valid for a week or 15 days, Gen Prawit said.
He did not comment on the Tourism and Sports Ministry’s proposal to allow entertainment venues to operate until 4am in tourist attraction areas.
Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda said Chinese and Indian visitors already had visas on arrival and concerned ministers would discuss differences between visas on arrival and the visa waiver in the cabinet meeting today.
Regarding the proposal on the extended opening hours of entertainment places, he said social and cultural impacts must be weighed against it. (TNA)
