BANGKOK, Aug 10 (TNA) – Public hospitals in seven drought-hit provinces have been ordered to store enough water supply for at least three days in case of water shortage after drought- stricken Surin Hospital faced a water crisis on Friday.
Prapon Tangsrikiattikul, the deputy permanent secretary for public health said he had held a video conference with directors and concerned officials of public hospitals in those seven provinces including Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, Si Sa Ket, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Suphan Buri and Surin.
The video conference was made after an announcement on shortage of rainfall released by the government-run Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
According to the announcement, drought has taken its toll on agricultural produce. However, public health institutions have not been affected as they assessed the situation and sought help from related agencies to supply water reserve for hospitals.
In a latest report, lack of rainfall has threatened tap water production for hospitals in Chaiyaphum province. Authorities have put in place a water management plan to handle the water shortage if there is no more rain in the next few weeks.
All public hospitals were ordered to store water for at least three days and to dig artesian wells to ensure enough water supply in case of emergency. (TNA)
