TAK, July 9 (TNA) –
Over 20 students and teachers were stranded after a heavy rain triggered
flash floods and mudslides in Tha Song Yang district of Tak province.
Torrential downpours hit villages located in the mountainous
terrain of the district for days.
Subsequent flash floods swept through Mae Tawo village while waterways
overflew Monday afternoon.
Rescuers and workers rushed to clear the road using heavy
equipment to reach a missionary school in the village. Frightened pupils and their teachers had been
stranded for hours before they were eventually evacuated from the school.
They had to wear harness and climb a rope over raging water.
District officials and volunteers had to deal with several
electricity poles that had been knocked downs by strong water flow as villagers
have been hit by blackout.
These villages in the western province Tak are prone to
flash floods. Military personnel and
workers have been mobilized for rescue operation, using heavy equipment to clear roads blocked by mud
and debris.(TNA)
