COLOMBO, July 3 (TNA) – Thailand and Sri Lanka agree to
develop sustainable tourism and integrate collaboration to promote tourism
between the two countries.
Tourism agencies of the two sides, Tourism Authority of
Thailand (TAT) and the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, have reached an
agreement recently.
TAT deputy governor Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya and Chairman
of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Kishu Gomes signed the
memorandum of understanding in Colombo.
John Amaratunga, Sri Lanka’s minister of tourism
development, wildlife and Christian religious affairs, and Chulamanee
Chartsuwan, the Thai ambassador to Sri Lanka witnessed the signing.
Mr. Chattan said two months after the deadly terrorist
attacks in Sri Lanka the situation now returned to normal.
The agreement paved the way for both agencies to exchange
experience and manage the industry efficiently, even in time of crises, he
said.
About 65,000 Sri Lankans visited Thailand last year and the
volume is expected to reach 73,000 this year.
Some 2.4 million foreigners visited Sri Lanka last year, about 10,000
were Thai people.
Sri Lanka has launched campaigns to restore international tourists’
confidence in the country after the attacks in April.(TNA)
